CVE-2020-11945: An issue was discovered in Squid before 5.0.2 CRITICAL 9.8 REMOTE WATCHLIST UPGRADE MITIGATE MITIGATE
CVE-2020-11945 is a critical-severity flaw (CVSS 9.8) affecting squid, debian linux, leap. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.
An issue was discovered in Squid before 5.0.2. A remote attacker can replay a sniffed Digest Authentication nonce to gain access to resources that are otherwise forbidden. This occurs because the attacker can overflow the nonce reference counter (a short integer). Remote code execution may occur if the pooled token credentials are freed (instead of replayed as valid credentials).
Why this priority Critical severity EPSS top 2%: very likely to be exploited Remotely exploitable, no login, no user action On your watchlist A fixed release or distro patch exists.

Safe to downgrade to: a release before 3.0
1. Check installed version
Copy apt-cache policy squid || rpm -q squid || squid --version
2. UPGRADE to 4.11 (Debian / Ubuntu)
Copy sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade squid
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
Copy sudo dnf upgrade squid
Note
Copy Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 3.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
Copy apt-cache madison squid
sudo apt install squid=<VERSION_BEFORE_3.0>
sudo apt-mark hold squid
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
Copy dnf --showduplicates list squid
sudo dnf downgrade squid-<VERSION_BEFORE_3.0>
sudo dnf versionlock add squid
Downgrade risk
Copy Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Copy Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
