HIGH 8.8UPGRADE

CVE-2020-35239 is a high-severity flaw (CVSS 8.8) affecting cakephp. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

A vulnerability exists in CakePHP versions 4.0.x through 4.1.3. The CsrfProtectionMiddleware component allows method override parameters to bypass CSRF checks by changing the HTTP request method to an arbitrary string that is not in the list of request methods that CakePHP checks. Additionally, the route middleware does not verify that this overriden method (which can be an arbitrary string) is actually an HTTP method.

Why this priority

  • High severity

A fixed release or distro patch exists.

Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
