CVE-2022-23305 is a critical-severity flaw (CVSS 9.8) affecting log4j, snapmanager, snapmanager. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

By design, the JDBCAppender in Log4j 1.2.x accepts an SQL statement as a configuration parameter where the values to be inserted are converters from PatternLayout. The message converter, %m, is likely to always be included. This allows attackers to manipulate the SQL by entering crafted strings into input fields or headers of an application that are logged allowing unintended SQL queries to be executed. Note this issue only affects Log4j 1.x when

Timeline

apache log4j UPGRADE
Affected: >= 1.2 and <= 1.2.17
Fixed in: newer than 1.2.17
Safe to downgrade to: a release before 1.2
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy log4j || rpm -q log4j || log4j --version
2. UPGRADE to newer than 1.2.17 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade log4j
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
sudo dnf upgrade log4j
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 1.2 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison log4j sudo apt install log4j=<VERSION_BEFORE_1.2> sudo apt-mark hold log4j
