CVE-2024-52301 is a high-severity flaw (CVSS 7.5) affecting framework, debian linux. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

Laravel is a web application framework. When the register_argc_argv php directive is set to on , and users call any URL with a special crafted query string, they are able to change the environment used by the framework when handling the request. The vulnerability fixed in 6.20.45, 7.30.7, 8.83.28, 9.52.17, 10.48.23, and 11.31.0. The framework now ignores argv values for environment detection on non-cli SAPIs.

Why this priority

  • High severity
  • EPSS top 1%: very likely to be exploited
  • Remotely exploitable, no login, no user action
  • On your watchlist

Safe to downgrade to: a release before 7.0.0
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy framework || rpm -q framework || framework --version
2. UPGRADE to 6.20.45 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade framework

sudo dnf upgrade framework
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 7.0.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison framework sudo apt install framework=<VERSION_BEFORE_7.0.0> sudo apt-mark hold framework
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list framework sudo dnf downgrade framework-<VERSION_BEFORE_7.0.0> sudo dnf versionlock add framework
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
