CVE-2026-10050 is a critical-severity flaw (CVSS 9.1) affecting jetty. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

In Eclipse Jetty, the Digest authentication server-side component uses ISO-8859-1 to encode the password as bytes. This was done because the initial specification for HTTP did not specify explicitly a charset, and it was assumed to be ISO-8859-1 for historical reasons. If the password contains characters that cannot be represented in ISO-8859-1, they are silently replaced by `?`. This happens with passwords that contain Chinese, Cyrillic or

Fixed in: 9.4.63, 10.0.31, 11.0.31, 12.0.36, 12.1.10
Safe to downgrade to: a release before 9.4.0
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy jetty || rpm -q jetty || jetty --version
2. UPGRADE to 9.4.63 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade jetty
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
sudo dnf upgrade jetty
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 9.4.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison jetty sudo apt install jetty=<VERSION_BEFORE_9.4.0> sudo apt-mark hold jetty
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list jetty sudo dnf downgrade jetty-<VERSION_BEFORE_9.4.0> sudo dnf versionlock add jetty
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
