CVE-2026-104623 is a medium-severity flaw (CVSS 6.3) affecting rancher. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

A security vulnerability exists in the authorization handling for the local (management) cluster shell feature of SUSE Rancher Manager 2.15.0 up to 2.15.3, 2.14.0 up to 2.14.7, 2.13.0 up to 2.13.11, 2.12.0 up to 2.12.15, 2.11.0 up to 2.11.19 and possible older versions. The authorization check that was introduced to protect this feature was not applied to every API route that can reach it, so an alternative request form reached the shell handler

Safe to downgrade to: a release before 2.11.0
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy rancher || rpm -q rancher || rancher --version
2. UPGRADE to 2.11.19 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade rancher
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
sudo dnf upgrade rancher
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 2.11.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison rancher sudo apt install rancher=<VERSION_BEFORE_2.11.0> sudo apt-mark hold rancher
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list rancher sudo dnf downgrade rancher-<VERSION_BEFORE_2.11.0> sudo dnf versionlock add rancher
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
