CVE-2026-2474 is a high-severity flaw (CVSS 7.5) affecting crypt\. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

Crypt::URandom versions from 0.41 before 0.55 for Perl is vulnerable to a heap buffer overflow in the XS function crypt_urandom_getrandom(). The function does not validate that the length parameter is non-negative. If a negative value (e.g. -1) is supplied, the expression length + 1u causes an integer wraparound, resulting in a zero-byte allocation. The subsequent call to getrandom(data, length, GRND_NONBLOCK) passes the original negative value,

ddick crypt\ UPGRADE
Affected: >= 0.41 and < 0.55
Fixed in: 0.55
Safe to downgrade to: a release before 0.41
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy crypt || rpm -q crypt || crypt --version
2. UPGRADE to 0.55 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade crypt
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
sudo dnf upgrade crypt
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 0.41 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison crypt sudo apt install crypt=<VERSION_BEFORE_0.41> sudo apt-mark hold crypt
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list crypt sudo dnf downgrade crypt-<VERSION_BEFORE_0.41> sudo dnf versionlock add crypt
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
