HIGH 8.2REMOTEUPGRADE

CVE-2026-32877 is a high-severity flaw (CVSS 8.2) affecting botan. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

Botan is a C++ cryptography library. From version 2.3.0 to before version 3.11.0, during SM2 decryption, the code that checked the authentication code value (C3) failed to check that the encoded value was of the expected length prior to comparison. An invalid ciphertext can cause a heap over-read of up to 31 bytes, resulting in a crash or potentially other undefined behavior. This issue has been patched in version 3.11.0.

Why this priority

sudo dnf upgrade botan
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 2.3.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison botan sudo apt install botan=<VERSION_BEFORE_2.3.0> sudo apt-mark hold botan
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list botan sudo dnf downgrade botan-<VERSION_BEFORE_2.3.0> sudo dnf versionlock add botan
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
