CVE-2026-35554 is a high-severity flaw (CVSS 8.7) affecting kafka. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

A race condition in the Apache Kafka Java producer client’s buffer pool management can cause messages to be silently delivered to incorrect topics. When a produce batch expires due to delivery.timeout.ms while a network request containing that batch is still in flight, the batch’s ByteBuffer is prematurely deallocated and returned to the buffer pool. If a subsequent producer batch—potentially destined for a different topic—reuses this freed buff

dnf --showduplicates list kafka sudo dnf downgrade kafka-<VERSION_BEFORE_2.8.0> sudo dnf versionlock add kafka
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
