HIGH 7.5REMOTEUPGRADE

CVE-2026-44432 is a high-severity flaw (CVSS 7.5) affecting urllib3. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

urllib3 is an HTTP client library for Python. From 2.6.0 to before 2.7.0, urllib3 could decompress the whole response instead of the requested portion (1) during the second HTTPResponse.read(amt=N) call when the response was decompressed using the official Brotli library or (2) when HTTPResponse.drain_conn() was called after the response had been read and decompressed partially (compression algorithm did not matter here). These issues could cause

Timeline

python urllib3 UPGRADE
Affected: >= 2.6.0 and < 2.7.0
Fixed in: 2.7.0
Safe to downgrade to: a release before 2.6.0
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy urllib3 || rpm -q urllib3 || urllib3 --version
2. UPGRADE to 2.7.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade urllib3
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
sudo dnf upgrade urllib3
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 2.6.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison urllib3 sudo apt install urllib3=<VERSION_BEFORE_2.6.0> sudo apt-mark hold urllib3
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list urllib3 sudo dnf downgrade urllib3-<VERSION_BEFORE_2.6.0> sudo dnf versionlock add urllib3
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
