MEDIUM 5.5WATCHLISTUPGRADE

CVE-2026-44512 is a medium-severity flaw (CVSS 5.5) affecting onnx. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

Open Neural Network Exchange (ONNX) is an open standard for machine learning interoperability. From 1.9.0 before 1.22.0, onnx.version_converter.convert_version() can dereference a null pointer in Upsample_6_7::adapt_upsample_6_7() in onnx/version_converter/adapters/upsample_6_7.h when processing an untrusted model with an Upsample node that has zero inputs, causing an unrecoverable denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 1.22.0.

linuxfoundation onnx UPGRADE
Affected: >= 1.9.0 and < 1.22.0
Fixed in: 1.22.0
Safe to downgrade to: a release before 1.9.0
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy onnx || rpm -q onnx || onnx --version
2. UPGRADE to 1.22.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade onnx
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
sudo dnf upgrade onnx
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 1.9.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison onnx sudo apt install onnx=<VERSION_BEFORE_1.9.0> sudo apt-mark hold onnx
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list onnx sudo dnf downgrade onnx-<VERSION_BEFORE_1.9.0> sudo dnf versionlock add onnx
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
