HIGH 7.5REMOTEUPGRADE

CVE-2026-44891 is a high-severity flaw (CVSS 7.5) affecting netty. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

Netty is a network application framework for development of protocol servers and clients. Prior to 4.1.136.Final and 4.2.16.Final, io.netty.handler.codec.stomp.StompSubframeDecoder fails to limit the total number of headers or their cumulative size per frame, and the maxLineLength parameter only restricts individual header lines. An attacker can send a large number of short headers that are accumulated in memory inside DefaultStompHeadersSubframe

Why this priority

Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 4.2.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison netty sudo apt install netty=<VERSION_BEFORE_4.2.0> sudo apt-mark hold netty

dnf --showduplicates list netty sudo dnf downgrade netty-<VERSION_BEFORE_4.2.0> sudo dnf versionlock add netty
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
