CRITICAL 9.1REMOTEUPGRADE

CVE-2026-46354 is a critical-severity flaw (CVSS 9.1) affecting coder. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

Coder allows organizations to provision remote development environments via Terraform. In versions prior tp 2.24.5, 2.29.13, 2.30.8, 2.31.12, 2.32.2, and 2.33.3, `azureidentity.Validate()` verifies that the PKCS#7 signer certificate chains to a trusted Azure CA but never verifies the PKCS#7 signature itself. An attacker can embed a legitimate Azure certificate alongside arbitrary content e.g. `{"vmId":"<target>"}` and the forged `vmId` will be ac

Safe to downgrade to: a release before 2.29.0
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy coder || rpm -q coder || coder --version
2. UPGRADE to 2.24.5 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade coder
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
sudo dnf upgrade coder
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 2.29.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison coder sudo apt install coder=<VERSION_BEFORE_2.29.0> sudo apt-mark hold coder
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list coder sudo dnf downgrade coder-<VERSION_BEFORE_2.29.0> sudo dnf versionlock add coder
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
