CVE-2026-54712 is a medium-severity flaw (CVSS 5.3) affecting opentelemetry instrumentation for java. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

OpenTelemetry Java Instrumentation provides OpenTelemetry auto-instrumentation and instrumentation libraries for Java. In versions prior to 2.27.0, the RMI context propagation payload reader limits the number of context entries but does not limit the aggregate size of the strings read from the stream. An attacker who can reach an RMI endpoint on an instrumented JVM can send an oversized context propagation payload. This can cause excessive memory

Fixed in: 2.27.0
Safe to downgrade to: a release before 2.26.1
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy opentelemetry-instrumentation-for-java || rpm -q opentelemetry-instrumentation-for-java || opentelemetry-instrumentation-for-java --version
2. UPGRADE to 2.27.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade opentelemetry-instrumentation-for-java
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
