CRITICAL 9.1REMOTEWATCHLISTUPGRADE
CVE-2026-65583 is a critical-severity flaw (CVSS 9.1) affecting cxf. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.
Apache CXF’s OIDC relying-party token validation could accept self-issued ID tokens without enforcing required claim checks (issuer/subject/audience/time and sub_jwk binding), enabling authentication bypass with crafted tokens. However, note that self-issued ID tokens are not accepted by default in the validator. Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.2.3 or 4.1.8 or 3.6.12, which fixes this issue.
Why this priority
- Critical severity
- CISA SSVC: automatable with total technical impact
- Remotely exploitable, no login, no user action
- On your watchlist

3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 4.0.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison cxf
sudo apt install cxf=<VERSION_BEFORE_4.0.0>
sudo apt-mark hold cxf

dnf --showduplicates list cxf
sudo dnf downgrade cxf-<VERSION_BEFORE_4.0.0>
sudo dnf versionlock add cxf
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
