CVE-2026-85596 is a critical-severity flaw (CVSS 9.8) affecting traefik. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

Traefik versions >= v3.7.0 and <= v3.7.10 contain an authentication bypass in the Kubernetes Ingress NGINX provider. The TLS option generated for an Ingress carrying the nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/auth-tls-secret annotation was named after the Ingress namespace and name. As a result, two Ingress objects sharing the same host, the same client CA secret, and the same client-authentication mode produced two distinct TLS option names for that host.

Why this priority

  • Critical severity
  • Public exploit reference
  • Remotely exploitable, no login, no user action

Timeline

traefik traefik UPGRADE
Affected: >= 3.7.0 and < 3.7.11
Fixed in: 3.7.11
Safe to downgrade to: a release before 3.7.0
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy traefik || rpm -q traefik || traefik --version
2. UPGRADE to 3.7.11 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade traefik
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
sudo dnf upgrade traefik
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 3.7.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison traefik sudo apt install traefik=<VERSION_BEFORE_3.7.0> sudo apt-mark hold traefik
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list traefik sudo dnf downgrade traefik-<VERSION_BEFORE_3.7.0> sudo dnf versionlock add traefik
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
