CVE-2017-15897 is a low-severity flaw (CVSS 3.1) affecting node.js. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

Node.js had a bug in versions 8.X and 9.X which caused buffers to not be initialized when the encoding for the fill value did not match the encoding specified. For example, 'Buffer.alloc(0x100, "This is not correctly encoded", "hex");' The buffer implementation was updated such that the buffer will be initialized to all zeros in these cases.

1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy node.js || rpm -q node.js || node.js --version
2. UPGRADE to 8.9.3 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade node.js

Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
