CVE-2024-8096 is a medium-severity flaw (CVSS 6.5) affecting curl, debian linux, active iq unified manager. Below: why it ranks where it does, which versions are affected, what to do, and the exact commands.

When curl is told to use the Certificate Status Request TLS extension, often referred to as OCSP stapling, to verify that the server certificate is valid, it might fail to detect some OCSP problems and instead wrongly consider the response as fine. If the returned status reports another error than 'revoked' (like for example 'unauthorized') it is not treated as a bad certficate.

haxx curl UPGRADE
Affected: >= 7.41.0 and < 8.10.0
Fixed in: 8.10.0
Safe to downgrade to: a release before 7.41.0
1. Check installed version
apt-cache policy curl || rpm -q curl || curl --version
2. UPGRADE to 8.10.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade curl
2. UPGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
sudo dnf upgrade curl
Note
Distros often backport fixes without changing the version number. Confirm with the distro advisory or changelog.
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE to a release before 7.41.0 (Debian / Ubuntu)
apt-cache madison curl sudo apt install curl=<VERSION_BEFORE_7.41.0> sudo apt-mark hold curl
3. If no update is available yet, DOWNGRADE (RHEL / Amazon Linux / Fedora)
dnf --showduplicates list curl sudo dnf downgrade curl-<VERSION_BEFORE_7.41.0> sudo dnf versionlock add curl
Downgrade risk
Downgrading can break dependent software and may reopen older bugs. Read the distro advisory first and test on a non-production host.
After downgrade
Restart the service, and keep the package held until a fixed release ships.
